About Manitowoc

The Manitowoc story is one of INNOVATION, SANITATION, and EFFICIENCY.

Since its inception in 1964, Manitowoc, Inc. has been on the cutting edge of product innovation, food safety and environmental stewardship. From the first automated cleaning system for ice machines, to the first ice machine with a touch screen display and offering the widest selection of ENERGY STAR® ice machines in the market, Manitowoc continues to be the industry leader and the trusted partner for businesses just starting out, to businesses with billions served.

Our innovation story has deep roots, starting with the game-changing invention of the vertical evaporator in 1969. 50 years on, this design continues to allow foodservice operators to satisfy their customers with a ready and refreshing supply of clear, cold ice. The story continued in 1999 with the introduction of the QuietQube with remote Cool Vapor Defrost (CVD). This remote unit combined the condenser and compressor and removed heat and noise from inside the building. The innovation story continues with the introduction of Indigo NXT, the 2019 Kitchen Innovations award-winning ice machine. Indigo NXT uses energy efficient rotary compressors and environmentally friendly refrigerants paired with features that allow businesses to tailor production to take advantage of lower cost energy options.

Food Safety is critically important to the markets Manitowoc serves; it is literally built into the design of every machine. From front facing evaporators with removable components for easy and thorough cleaning, to fully isolated food zones and AlphaSan® antimicrobial treatment, Manitowoc has done for decades what others are only beginning to discover. This commitment to sanitation continues today with the optional Luminice® II growth inhibitor. It is the only internal, fully integrated, automatic UV gas air solution on the market that provides a 24/7 layer of safety and security for foodservice operators.

Manitowoc’s environmental story also runs deep. As an ENERGY STAR® partner for over ten years, the company has developed creative solutions to maximize the energy efficiency of its machines. The patented Air Assist Harvest technology speeds up the ice harvest cycle lowering overall energy use while the acoustic ice-sensing technology accurately measures ice thickness for consistent cube formation, resulting in a quality ice cube in less time. Manitowoc’s commitment to environmental responsibility also includes leadership in the use of environmentally friendly refrigerants; the company led the industry with the elimination of CFC refrigerants in 1995, 20 years ahead of the Clean Air Act.

Manitowoc currently manufactures ice machines and components in three world-class, ISO-certified facilities strategically positioned to serve a global marketplace. The Center of Excellence, located in Manitowoc, Wisconsin hosts manufacturing, engineering, training, service, sales and marketing, as well as post-sale support functions. World-class facilities in Monterrey, Mexico, and Hangzhou, China produce and assemble over 200 models of ice machines seen across the globe in hotels, restaurants, bars, convenience stores and grocery stores. The times have changed, but a continued commitment to product innovation, food safety and environmental stewardship continue to make Manitowoc America's #1 selling brand of ice machine.
