We entered the food service equipment market in the mid-1960s by purchasing the name and manufacturing rights to the Kodiak brand ice machine. By that time, Manitowoc had already developed considerable refrigeration technology as a manufacturer of residential refrigerators/freezers. In 1968, it patented a breakthrough evaporator that catapulted it to a dominant position in the US ice-making industry. Additionally, we produce ice storage bins and ice-machine accessories. Today, we are America’s #1 selling ice machine.
Our product technology and innovation have been major factors in our leadership position within the ice machine industry. Manitowoc also has a manufacturing facility in China, with distribution centers located worldwide. Our products are known for their quality, reliability and innovation - elements that allow us to lead the foodservice industry. We manufacture, engineer, and test our products with a superior team of 450 employees on our 360,000 square foot facility.
Together with Manitowoc Foodservice, we have introduced 28 new product innovations in the last year. Our Manitowoc Ice team was the first to offer two and three year product warranties; first to convert to alternative refrigerants; first to develop an automatic cleaning system; and first ice maker manufacturers to be ISO Certified. We were also named “Manufacturer of the Year” in 1999. These awards highlight the pride we have in our product, our passion for excellence, and our commitment to quality.
Manitowoc Ice is an important part of Manitowoc Foodservice – our parent company is The Manitowoc Company, Inc.
